about

Folke Nikanor's debut album ”Bottenviken” got a excellent reception and not long after the release, some of his musician friends asked if they could do remixes because they liked the songs so much. This started something that was not planned from the beginning. A couple more were also contacted and suddenly there was a completely new album where Folke's songs had been given totally new expressions.

"Bottenviken Revisited" kick off with Per Nordmark's (Fireside, Kriget) rhythmic dance version of ”Under Stenarna”, which feels as if it was always meant to sound like this. It is followed by Frida Johansson's (Barnet) wide cinematic version of "Boeves Psalm", where the strings have got plenty of room to put a sacred mood which feels natural to a hymn. The Small Crowd give ”E4an Två Mil” a distinct electronic twist and take it as much out into Kraftwerk land as the 90's techno territory, with a distinct beat which seems to go on forever. Domus takes us back to "Boeves Psalm" and their version has been completely transformed into a kraut-battering rhythmic bomb, completely impossible to guard yourself against. The biggest transformation is probably made to ”Below the Stones" (Under Stenarna) by A Gilbert Play who have taken a instrumental song, added both lyrics and singing (!), and turned into a soft, melancholic and progressive pop gem. S Rue then take on ”Bråddjupet” with heavy breakbeats, where drums and synth bass live in perfect harmony. Calle Olsson (Paper, Bear Quartet) uses his Paddington DC alias to tackle ’So Long Altersbruk' (in his version called ’Vi Hörs Kil') and give it a total electronic remake where the synths get completely free range and where the rhythm can be traced back to the early 80s experimental synth scene. The journey ends with "E4an Två Mil” and BvB who utilizes subtle changes and sound effects to give the song a quite spooky atmosphere, giving it a feeling of driving at night in the dark. Have a nice journey.
